At Kairos, we strive to engage God in all aspects of our lives, from the wonders of creation to our joys and sorrows. The root of this value is expressed by Jesus’s words in Mark 1:15, “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” We try our best to live in this “kingdom of God” on Earth and encourage each other in faith. As a community, we thoughtfully embrace our trials and tribulations, believing in the redemption, strength, and transformation of God’s promises. We are everent for the world around us and the one to come.
Seeking the kingdom of God can be daunting. Regularly, God invites us to live out of step with the values and expectations of our society (Luke 5). Living in the wonderfully chaotic city of Los Angeles, we strive to bravely walk with Christ into the contradictions of our world and the emerging kingdom of God. It takes courage to respond to the new and changing responsibilities we find in our walk. The hope is that our boldness will lead us and others into a deeper relationship with God and each other.
Our lives are filled with responsibilities that are often conflicting. Sometimes it can seem like a luxury to “seek first [God’s] kingdom and his righteousness” before our ‘other’ priorities. As our days become more complicated, we can easily lose sight of the robust life God wants for all of us. At Kairos we aspire to live in God’s goodness by sustaining a balance between work and rest. We have faith in God’s capacity to restore our souls when we rest (Psalm
23), rather than retreat.
Relationships are extremely important. We value and cherish our commitment to God, each other, and our faith. Kairos makes the effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. In order to preserve this unity, we hold diversity in high esteem. We welcome all people, of all identities and beliefs, to join our individual and communal walks with Christ. What people believe is important to Kairos, but it does not trump our relationships with God or each other.
